Originally built in 1966 on the site of the Corner Brook Public School, the Greenwood Inn and Suites Corner Brook building was built by Joey Smallwoods government for the purpose of hosting Newfoundlanders returning for the much celebrated first Come Home Year in 1967.
Over the years the building has hosted a number of dignitaries including Prime Ministers and members of the British Royal Family. The building has long been a fixture of the local sporting community, supporting and hosting minor hockey and baseball tournaments, and in recent years has served as the host hotel for the Corner Brook ITU Triathlon World Cup and World Duathlon Championships.
