History
The Inn opened in 1972 as a roadside motel with a small diner and bar. Over the past seven years the facility has been rebuilt, expanded and repositioned as a meeting and special occasion hotel.
The appearance of the building has been dramatically transformed through the use of a French, turn of the century architectural design on the exterior, combined with an interior treatment using crown moldings, classic artwork, and dark woods.
The grounds and water frontage along Lake Thomas have been developed into a groomed parkland, with extensive recreational facilities, gardens, gazebos, and decks. The combination of the landscaping and the French Mansard architecture have created an ambiance of a country retreat at the outskirts of the city.
In 1991 the Inns management and employees were recognized by the Nova Scotia tourism industry by being honoured the coveted award of Innkeeper of the Year.
In the spring of 1992, the Inn opened its new executive floor of luxurious 1, 2, and 3 bedroom suites with whirlpool baths, king and queen size beds, and private balconies. Ideal for those yearning for romance or just relaxing after a long business trip.
To date, reaction to the changes from customers and the community has been encouraging. In recognition of the visual improvements, the County of Halifax honoured the Inn with a Beautification Award in the fall of 1989.
Today Inn On The Lake enjoys one of the highest occupancy rates of any full service hotel in the province. During 1990, the Inn hosted nearly 1,000 meetings and special functions.
The property has earned a fine local reputation for food and service, and growing national recognition. At the Inn on the Lake, we are constantly updgrading our facilities in order to better serve our clientele.
