With only seven ensuite guest rooms, Angel House Heritage Inn offers its guests the amenities of a five-star hotel, yet with the privacy and comfort befitting a country home within the heart of St. John's.

Stroll the gardens on the acre of property, browse the bookshop, garden/antique shop, or join in a viewing of a film from a library of over 850 titles. Or simply relax with a cup of tea from one of the many vantage points with which to take in the grounds and surrounding valley. Visit Angel House for your peace and quiet in the middle of the city.

Angel House was built in 1878-1879 by the Hon. James Angel most readily associated with the United Nail and Foundry, one of the many incarnations of the family ironworks that operated from the 1850's until 1982. The Foundry was responsible for many firsts in the province, among them Newfoundland's first steam engine, first steel boiler and first steel-hulled ship.

Angel House was purchased in 1997 from the Angel Family, and was caringly restored and seasonally run as a B&B. Designated a Provincial Heritage Property in 2000, one of the original owners, John O. Buffinga, a self-inspired gardener, beautifully arranged the acre of grounds into various themes and gardens.

The house, recently purchased and renovated, now operates year round as an Inn offering accommodation and event facilities. Through their interests in antiques, history and heritage properties, present co-owners Russell and Patricia bring much to any stay.

There are three suites, one on each floor: upper suites have two rooms, King or Queen beds, desks & Wifi; lower suite has one & half baths with two queen beds. With two storey's and a basement, the Second Empire style home has a centre hall floor plan with back to back fireplaces on the main floor in the dining and living rooms. The east side of the home features four bay windows with decorative eaves, dentils on the east side and an ornamental bargeboard on the west. Its most prominent architectural feature is the five-sided Scotch dormer which stands proudly in the mansard roof. This space has been converted into a private sitting area for guests with views of the valley, access to historical and touring books on Atlantic Canada along with internet access.
